Types of Dental Student

After almost three years attending a dental school in which I get to see various human beings from various interest that has come together and study the science of Dental Studies, I have overcome issues and certain thoughts that I’ve decided to conclude up in my three years together with the same kind of people.

In this post I want some people to think that my views aren’t always right, it may sounds I am judging but sometimes you’ve got to learn the humanity in serving a patient.

So first there is the…

  1. I’ve got to have it all kind of Dental Student.
This kind of dental student grabs all the attention first. They want their work to be set as an example so they could finish fast and perfect, they are the perfect dentist, the straight A student dentist, the work hard play harder dentist, the “I’m chasing for money” dentist, yet they are actually the most laziest dentist. If it is possible they don’t want to get dirty like real dirty, they don’t want to deal with issues and stuffs that really mattered. The worst type is that they really don’t have some morality, they don’t want to deal with patients who don’t have money if possible. I am not saying that it is bad, but life isn’t about getting rich and fulfilling your worldly needs.
  2. I don’t give a damn as long as I get to be a dentist kind of dental student
This kind of dental student sometimes annoys us. They come to classes just to learn a little what they are going to do in the future and most of them doesn’t give a damn. At least their attendance is enough, it’s good for them. They really don’t care much about their grades as long as they pass but sometimes these dental students are the best at skill’s lab. Their work is perfectly awesome, neat and smooth but sometimes they are lack of theory. Sometimes they are likely to have more other thing that they are more concerned of, like may be their hobbies and things that they are find of.
  3. I tried hard and I’m going to be more than just a dentist kind of dental student
This kind of dental student is not the brightest in class nor even awesome at skill’s lab. This dental students know what they are aiming for but they are never going to let themselves flunked up. If possible they’ll study each night, but if not then they’ll be just fine with what they’ve got. They know they have tried hard, but they couldn’t do much when the results has come out either its good or bad. But even though they know their capacity, they surely want to do more than just being a dentist, but if possible what they do will imply in being a dentist and help much in the futrus. They know that they have to give, and so in many ways, they want to make their lives useful to many others and even themselves. These kind of dentist knows that there is more than what they see in the surface. Unfortunately they are the average ones and somehow tends to be the ones that focuses on many things.

So which one are you?  Please don’t feel offended. There is a positive and negative to all of the kinds. But if you do feel offended then I’m sorry that people already know you well.

12th May

We all grieve, in our hearts, in our mind, in our soul. We get to process. But we have to move on no matter how long you grieve.

The death of four college students of Trisakti University who were shot by the authorities on 12th May 1998 and other citizens of Indonesia had impacted the government.

In writing 12th May I have to position myself in many ways.

12th May was the momentum for Trisakti as they lost 4 students. This had triggered many people. There were also other Tragedies of May  that had resulted the regime of President Soeharto to fall apart as he decided to step back as president on the 23rd of May (if I am not mistaken).

Apart of Trisakti died on the 12th of May, we all died, and I respect our heroes for fighting in what they believe in. But I pity the condition they have left. I believe in so many ways that these 4 heroes wouldn’t want to see us to grieve.

For over 14 years we had paid our respect to them and remembering the minutes they died on 12th May. We have fought for their rights. AND YES, WE WILL NOT FORGET. But yet, we haven’t REFORMED much.

Trisakti has been known as the University of Reformation. This has left us a spirit to reform what we had to be something better but yet, we are still grieving.

For me 12the May is also respecting their death, but I wonder if 12th May could be a festival of reformation. It is not celebrating the death of the 4 college students, but it is honoring their courage for taking a bullet to reform Indonesia to be a better place. This should be apart what Trisakti doing now.

12th May is the momentum where Trisakti turns to be a reformation university. REFORMATION had been the identity of TRISAKTI but not all of us has the spirit of REFORMATION. This is what disappoints me.

ref·or·ma·tion

[ref-er-mey-shuhn]

noun

1.

the act of reforming;  state of being reformed.

2.

( initial capital letter ) the religious movement in the 16thcentury that had for its object the reform  of the RomanCatholic Church, and that led to the establishment of theProtestant churches.

If we always try to fight the government for the rights of our 4 heroes, then we are stuck in the past. These four heroes wouldn’t want us to be stuck. They would want us to do more with the DIGNITY of REFORMATION they have left.

And yes in honor of the 4 college student who had died for our freedom, we could start reformatting from Education, Health, Social, Economy, Politics, Culture and more.

I understand the climate of politics in my university, and I am not accusing anyone anything. I believe everyone has their own portion in doing their jobs. But if you still want to remember what 12th May means for Trisakti, well we should be grateful that they fought for our freedom

I am not saying that grieving and asking for justice is wrong, but what if the people that lived on that day passed away? What if they aren’t even interested in fighting for justice again? What if the people who remembered how they died gone? What if the families of the victims died? What if… What if… AND WHAT IF? ARE WE GOING TO STILL REMEMBER WHAT 12th MAY MEANS?

The answer is all up to you.

14th February is celebrated as the day of love but it is actually the day that St Valentine persecuted, yet in honor of his death people celebrated that day with their loved ones.

IF 12th May is about grieving, making chaos in the streets in front of Trisakti, THEN we are stuck in the past, where history keeps repeating itself. We haven’t move on. Unfortunately the tragedy of 12th May is the only thing that Trisakti has to remember. But I know it is not.

I have seen my friends fighting for more than just reformation, and I am lucky to be apart of the battle field.

Yet if we are still fighting for positions, money, fame, and those inhumanity stuffs without doing anything and making the world a better place, reformation won’t mean much. Reformation would be just a word, that comes after Trisakti University. It would be just words. Not more not less, and pride (if it is still there).

I believe in the spirit of Reformation, we all have the willing to make Indonesia a better place.

Java Bali Lombok

From 23rd of February till 3rd of March, I was on a road trip from Jakarta to Lombok with twenty three other members of DMAN (Divisi Mahasiswa Anti Narkoba – Student Division of Anti Drugs) Trisakti University. We visited Universities in order to promote the generation that are free from drugs.

We left Jakarta on the 23rd of February, and then we arrived at Semarang to visit Diponegoro University on the 24th. We met students of PEDULI NAPZA and I bonded with so many nice friends. They were so lovely and welcomed us so much. Our almamater looks the same because it’s some what blue.

After Diponegoro University, the team left for Brawijaya University as we arrived the next morning. The name of the student activity that was concerned about Drugs was called Tegazs. I was impressed by the university and the people of Malang they were as nice as the ones from Dipenogoro University. Sadly they were not wearing their almamater but I knew their almamater was somehat greenish blue.

Then on the 26th, the team arrived Bali. I did not like to wait for the others to wake up and wait again for them to get ready, so Fitri and I decided to hire a car and a driver to take us around Bali. At first we visited Tanah Lot.

As Fitri and I departed, I asked the driver to take me to Nusa Dua, Uluwatu and finally having myself wondering at Jimbaran…

The next day the team visits Udayana University and after that we drove all the way to Lombok. As we arrived in Lombok, most of us decided to rest until the middle of the day. But in the evening we went pearl hunting and had dinner in RM Carpio which was located in East Lombok.

RM carpio belongs to may cousin in law’s family so I was so happy to meet my cousin, nieces and nephew.

On the 29 the I got to see Gili Trawangan, it was certainly the most beautiful place ever. It’s really the best place to travel with sort budget and in the right time you can find an awesome cheap cottage.

On the 1st of March, my friends and I visited Mataram University. I was asked to be the MC in just seconds. Then later that evening we went back to Bali by bus, and arrived at the same place I stayed before around 1 a.m.

On the 2nd of March I get loads to do:

  • sunrise in Bali
  • had a little shopping at Krisna
  • breakfast at the hotel
  • rented a car and went to Nusa Dua for some water sport
  • had dinner at Jimbaran
  • shopping at Krisna
  • and hang out at legian

It was tiring but I LOVED IT!

And on the 3rd of March I got on the plane and flew back to Jakarta.

Raising Awareness of Cancer in Children through Mothers

To commemorate the month of Cancer, Global Citizen Corps and Indonesian Youth Health Ambassadors on their sixth action held an action to spread the awareness of Cancer in children. In a 1,5 hour lecture with mothers of children from PAUD Al-Husna (Education for Early Childhood of Al-Husna) near the suburbs of East Jakarta, around Pondok Gede.

The team consisted of 8-10 university students that already had a brief training on Cancer in Children by Dr. Edi from RS Kanker Dharmais (Dharmais Cancer Hospital). And the target are the mothers of children. The aim of the event was to increase awareness that children or anyone could have cancer. Through this action, the mothers could be more aware of the symptom of cancer in children such as leukemia and retino blastoma.

Leukemia in children could be easily shown by the lack of energy, easily tired which made children always want to be carries, pale faces, fevers that keep coming and wounds that doesn’t heal fast. As for retinoblastoma, it is easily known by the short examination done by the physician called “red look in they eyes”. Retinoblastoma does not attack after the age of 5. The team encourages that if the mothers ever find their children in this condition, they should bring their children straight to the hospital for an examination, because if cancer is found in early stages, the chances to live a healthy life is high.

Twenty to twenty five mothers attended the event. They mothers amazed to know the how cancer can invade the body. Questions were asked beyond the the material given such as how breast cancer could be shown in their body. The team explains through personal experiences. They were welcome with the information given to them.

By increasing awareness, mothers are encourage to implement a healthy lifestyle in their children and avoid any factors that could trigger the cancer cell to develop.

Susu Tumpah Di Jalan

On the 22th of January I volunteered myself with Indonesia Cobra Show to give free milk to the kids at Kota Tua in the event called SUSU TUMPAH DIJALAN which means Poured Milk on the Streets. It was a lovely afternoon with the crowds mingling in front of the Fatahillah Museum. I asked my friends to join volunteering too. We gathered the kids that have given the coupon for free milk

The kids of Kota Tua came from families with low income. I was kind of amazed that the parents had come and bring their children  at 1 pm when we’ve already informed them that we’ll be giving around 3 pm. I understand that to them free things are worth it to be waited. Especially its for the good of their children.

My friends and I were formed into small groups to give out the free milk. Each group consist of 6 volunteers that has to handle 25 children as there were 200 children that had been given the free milk.

The free milk came from donations and there were 600 milk donated to us. The rest of the milk would be donated again to orphan houses.

Before the children were given free milk, the children were entertained with Cobra Show by Indonesian Cobra Show. The aim was to educate the children about cobra with a fun and healthy way.

Raising Awareness of Children with Cancer

On the 6th 0f January I held a small Training of Trainer on Children with Cancer at the Children’s Ward of Rumah Sakit Kanker Anak. I estimated about 15 people to come and those were the ones I specially invited but then oy including me came to the training.

Sort of disappointed though because I made the appointment with Dr. Edy from RS Kanker Dharmais to hold this small training, but luckily he was fine with and understood the weather changes that affects the small event.

I am thankful to Meilissa, Puput, Nada, Ingrid, Nikita and Ida to join this small sharing. I hope that from this sharing we get to know how cancer are in children and how to deal with issues related to it.

I hope that from the event I could make a small action that gives impact towards the awareness of Cancer in Children. It was such a nice evening to spend with friends and knowing about Cancer. I missed Meilisa so much, that it was nice to have her around actually.

I’m hoping to make an action from this training.

19 Years of Lessons

Not in ever I will regret myself for living. I am 19 years now and I am grateful for the YEARS that GOD have given me, either it’s good times or bad times, its 19 years of LESSONS.

So days before my birthday my friend, Gusti asked me not to go anywhere, I was so aware that they are going to give me a so called planned surprise and a moment of “Diceplokkin” or being CRACKED AN EGG AND FLOUR. They said they were going to come at midnight but then came around 7 in the morning of 24th December.

In my 19 years of life being an Indonesia, I never have AN EGG CRACKED ON MY HEAD, and on the 24th of December 2011 was my first.

And after that I took four friends and a boyfriend of my friend to have a little breakfast in Porridge Shop…

Then after finishing the surprises with my friends (and surely cleaning up), I went to my Aunt’s place where three other aunts and my mum has been waiting for. They were ought to celebrate my birthday with a little gathering.

That is my mum I’m giving my first cake to, thanks mom.

Then some us went to see Sherlock Holmes 2 which was quiet awesome. I licked my 19 th birthday, it was so filled with love, laughter and joy. I pray for the people who had made felt special on that day, and for the ones who had send me BBMs, facebook wall, text messages and tweets. Thank you all

Movement Maker of December

So my friend, Ikki, interviewed me for Movement Magazine ‘s Movement Maker of December. I never thought my page would be sided with (the great) DODDY MATONDANG who was an alumni of Trisakti University and also a Movement Maker too. Then on the page before the movement maker page, it was a review of Trisakti EXPO event. I guess it was more or like a Trisakti Edition…

And when I posted this as my Display Picture on BBM, three friends from University of Indonesia asked me if I was trying to be a candidate of the Head of Student Board Executives. I laughed out loud!
